Home Thai is probably the best sydney CBD thai place and yes, I do think the food is just a tad better than chat thai which is seemingly the popular one. Located at Shop 1 – 2 299 Sussex Street Sydney, Home Thai sits underneath a somewhat new apartment block with orange fins – thats how you tell its there. On the street side, there is a yellow sign affixed to the wall showing you where it sits.
Home thai is a great lunch venue for a variety of reason. The food is excellent, and a majority of the lunch menu is under a tenner ($10-15) and the food is freshly cooked and pretty much everything on the menu is great. They have a selection of entrees that you can order too; I’m partial to the Kahnoom Jeeb – pork siewmai/thai style -$5.90 fo 5; excellent. And a garlic chive filled chui qui entree (also $5.90); well steamed; very yummy.
They have 2 menus; one lunch, and another dinner menu with different options.
The pad thai comes well presented with a lot of fresh sprouts, ample seasoning with chili/sugar on the side for you to mix in. Its very good $10 mains. Good portions.
This beef salad above $15 and is an excellent dish with a generous quantity of beef that is cooked just a tad medium and flavoured with piquant thai flavours. Delicious.
Note: Home Thai don’t skimp on the chilli so the dishes imo are fairly authentic; if you order something like the pad kee mao (with the chili); prepare to sweat and drink a lot of water.
Highly Recommended. I love this place. The first week I discovered it; I came everyday and I was here for dinner too.
