[Now Closed] The Chip off the Old Block in Chippendale is a bit of a play on names. The name borrows from chippendale where this resides and the other part of the name is the fact that Katya Ginsberg whose venue this is; has housed it under the NG gallery which is owned by her mother Nikky Ginsberg and the parallel is complete. Its a great looking smartly finished laneway smallbar which we rather enjoy.

Step back a little and you’ll realise that COTOB is housed in a church – gothic revival.

Opening day. We popped in and it was manic and packed. Word gets out. Its a clean and efficient space, with hanging copper pipes and a big central table.

The signature complimentary bar snack is some gorgeous shelled nuts – there’s a nutcracker on the table for you to crack them and get at the kernels. Different. Yum. Prices on the menu cap off at about $17.

On Saturdays – they throw back and down with a Hendricks ($10) and Hendrixs night. Favourite things.

They served the drinks up in a wineglass with cucumber. Its delicious of course.

Hot chips at Chip off the Old Block seemed appropo. There’s a kitchen here and a nice selection of food between.

Here’s our 15 second instavideo look at COTOB.

Chip off the Old Block is a clean sharp intimate modern laneway bar. With a great vibe and crowd from the surround “art” precinct – its one we can heartily recommend. Happy hours are 5-7pm with $5 house wine and local beer. And of course, Hendricks and Hendrixs on the Saturday.

This is what’s happening at COTOB:

Bend It Like Tuesday’sLocal Young Henry’s brews, bhaji’s and samosa’s to curry on your week, what better way to cure them Tuesday blues? Bendin’ it like Beckham once did, we have bent our Oliver Twist-esque Brit style cuisine to wet your whistle with all things Indian because after Queen Lizzie, a good ol’ cuppa, and tennis superstar Andy Murray, them Pom’s love just two things: a pint and a bloody good curry.

Game On Wednesday’s: Snap. Spoons. Gin Rummy. Dominoes. Jenga. Go Fish…what ever floats that boat of yours really. Get your game face on ’cause thing’s are about to get fierce. Celebrate your first win of the night with a complimentary glass of house wine #HappyHumpDay

Trip In & Chip In Thursday’sLet that beat drop and warm yourself to dance. Take a Trip Off The Old Block with our chilled jazz turned deep-house turned hip-hop resident DJ’s Trip Off and reside with a mulled Young Henry’s cider infused with sloe gin, cinnamon and orange and ease into the weekend in style

Chipper Friday’s: Get #T.G.I.F style chipper and hit that after-work spot with house wine & beer ($5) and our “Poor Man’s Cure” with a side of Chips Off The Old Block ($8)

Whisky Business & Old School Saturday’s: It’s time to kick it old school when our Whisky Business Saturday’s come to town. Indulge in a whisky or ten and enjoy a mix of old school rap, RnB and hip-hop from 8-10pm and get that Saturday ball rollin

My sis lives a stone’s throw away, we’ve been trying to organise a visit but hasn’t happened just yet.
