[Invitational Review] Hidden away in Hosking Place (trust us, you won’t know its here unless you’re shown) is Suminoya Japanese – We wandered around looking for it and ended up in a fairly peculiar venue – its age shows but its packed and popular so we’re the ones missing out. What’s here? Japanese BBQ and you’ll quickly note all the chimney/exhaust units in here and then some.

This bit of firepit out front is where all the heat bricks get cooked and all the cooking grill setups cooks from. We’d say its charcoal but the heat stones seems like they’re possibly reusable. Menu does say charcoal.

We also order a pork katsu bento. There’s a bit to eat there – sashimi, katsu, pickles, miso. $25

Suminoya’s actually sort of neat. We liked how traditional it felt and how rudimentary it felt. The space isn’t super flash but we quite like that in dive finds. There’s was also actual ample meats in the 3 choice selection to share. It’s a good time. Bring something to freshen your clothes after if you’ve got slight aversions to smelling like a delicious meat bbq after.
