Pocketbar sits round the back of oxford street and is run by the same guys who helm stitch and button bar, (button is a perennial favourite) and we really enjoy the time we spend there. Well, Pocketbar now has a range of international street eats on their menu (okra, gyros, pork buns and more) and we dropped in for eats and drinks. Pocket’s actually a great small bar with great food.
Street Food from everywhere – its all meant to be street food and there’s steamed pork buns, tacos, pho, chicken karage, jerk chicken and more (click to expand the above pic).
Hey, its chinese styled pork buns and there was 3 of them – instead of the normal 1x you get at other venues. They’re a nice treat.
Going Japanese. Chicken karage dish came with some spicy chillis and we did try to eat them. Nice serve of chicken, piping hot and good.
Greek! Gyro with lamb. No joke. Big serve and a side of chips with it too.
Fried Okra. We went southern. Loved these.
Morning Dew Cocktail. Gotta say, their watermelon martini is ridiculously garnished but so good.
Their play on a whisky sour with a wedge of violet crumble in it and an anchor steam beer.
FastidiousGangster – chandon brut, gin gomme.
Tikitimes cocktail is gin and rum with grapefruit juice – one of the prettier cocktails tonight.
(L) corpse reviver – gin, lillet, cointreau, lemon and (R) a whet appetite – habernero, cazadore blanc, agave syrup, basil and cucumber. Its spicy.
A rather yummy espresso martini
Venue is a hodge podge of chaises and lounges round the back. Its got an intimate back bar feel.
oh no you didn’t.
Lots of small bar ephemera and artwork.
Pocket Bar is one of the older smallbars and its settled in nicely with character that’s built up over time. Lots of knick knacks, wall mural that liven up the space. The bar is one giant back bar with lots of vino and spirits on display and they do mean and delicious cocktails. Also dug the new bar food menu – with all the various eats from all over. Great food, great atmosphere and great service. Its basically dinner and drinks. You should. We would.
