Mervivale’s waterfront BBQ and seafood joint Papi Chulo up at Manly turned One and to celebrate they threw a bit of a birthday do; with plenty of drinks and eats. With honcho Justin Hemmes, Chefs Chris Hogarth and Patrick Friesen in the house. Papi Chulo’s 1st birthday was a funtime evening in this Manly Hotspot.

Papi Chulo is an attractive waterside venue. There’s ample seating along the Manly Cove venue edge and its attractively fitted out with a bright beachside feel. They’ve done a great job here, with a large bar in the middle. ample seating and booths on the waterside.

The selection of seafoods available today at Papi Chulo was an array of fresh eats and delicious raw treats. There were freshly shucked oysters, lobster ceviche, scampi ceviche and also kingfish ceviche.

Papi Chulo’s meat/carvery section is impressive and everything from here was delicious – from the brisket, pork belly, shortrib, sausages to that suckling pig. This is why you’d come to Papi Chulo with chef Patrick Friesen leading the carvery. We particularly enjoyed the sausages and the brisket with its smokey rich flavour and any bit that was charred (burnt ends). Suckling Pig was also a knockout being crispy and as Frisesen likes to hashtag #sojuicy (in his instagram pics.)

A duo of cocktails. Their Cravado – this is a smoothie like drink for the big kidults – delicious blend of vodka, coconut water, lychees, fresh mint and lime. We’re quite partial to this. Its great, tasted healthy and fresh.

    Jealous! We went there at the end of last year as a normal lunch and didn’t get to try as much seafood as you did. The friends who tried the Cravado that time thought all they could taste was mint, though.
