Pagoto Gelato & Waffle House, a Greek Gelato joint in Marrickville is a boutique Mum and Pop establishment and quite a gorgeous looking one at that. The thing that makes Pagoto is the tall space that it sits in, the cute pop kitsch artwork of that girl eating gelato and also the streetside artwork to the one side. There’s about 36 gelato flavours (scroll down to their gelato menu) and they’re quite proud of the fact that half of their gelato menu is Greek. There’s lots of good stuff here and we’re seeing ourselves popping back in more now that we’ve discovered this. From mestixa, baklava to a tsoureki and there’s even a ouzo flavour – these are the Aegean flavours uncommon to the Sydney Gelato Market.
We really liked the Pagoto Gelato space. It’s a tall volume and you can see it and it is this generosity of volume that makes Pagoto feel fresh. The appealing artwork on the street side gives it that pop kitsch freshness and then of course, there’s that generous gelato display.
What a menu board. We’re drawn to a lot of these.
Closeup on their menuboard. There’s an array of waffle options too here which we loved. Not many places do them and it’s a yummy dessert treat.
Loux drink is very greek but that’s Pagoto’s point of differentiation.
Diples, Baklava, Almond Macaroon, Kataifi, Triple Choc Mudcake, Smashed Pavlova Flavours beckon.
It’s an appealing looking array of gelato. We went with the Hubba Bubba (that blue one) to the right – its always the ones that runout that you’d wanna get.
Banana, Strawberry and Nutella Waffles with their Smashed Pavlova Gelato $12.50. Gelato 3 Scoops – Red Velvet, Watermelon and Feta and their Hubba Bubba $8
The waffle is freshly made to order and a good sized serve with plenty of fresh fruit and a large scoop of their gelato. Similarly, the three scooper that we had alongside was really quite delicious; Hubba Bubba tasted like the real deal while watermelon and feta was quite interesting with sweet watermelon gelato smashed through with bits of savoury tart feta – suffice to say, the Red Velvet and White Choc combo shone.
Hubba Bubba in a waffle Cone and a double scooper featuring their chocolate and smashed pavlova.
Standards like cookies and cream sell out and here their loading the display up with more.
Located in Marrickville, Pagoto’s pretty great. It’s got an interesting range of gelato flavours that not many other places have. The greek lineage to their Gelato is winning and we loved it. It’s hard not to when it’s this appealing and delicious. While we were in there, we were informed that on Fridays, you gotta check in – they’re bringing in a greek lady who’s going to be making traditional loukamades. Their Gelato menu cycles every 2 weeks so plenty of reason to head back in.
