Herradura Tequila Tasting Barrio Cellar
Barrio Cellar located in the Sydney CBD is easily one of our favourite places in Sydney City for drinks and eats (with one of our favourite burgers in Sydney to boot – see sidebar). We pop in today for a Herradura Tequila Tasting Session with Stuart Reeves and enjoyed some fine company.
A look at the 4 Herradurra Tequila’s that we’re tasting today – Blanco / Anejo / Reposado and a Double Barrel Tequila. One thing to note is that Herradura is an ultra premium, 100% blue agave tequila. Goes down real nice.
The tasting as its underway. The range we get starts with the 45 day old Blanco (almost clear with a slight straw colour and a peppery tequila that is used in the Tommy’s Magaritas here at BC). There’s a Reposado (aged 11 months) that has vanilla notes, slight smokiness and an amber hue. Their Anejo (25 months old) a darker shade and a complex spicer drinking Tequila. The double barrel is a more robust tequila with a whisky like quality – lots of wood/oak spicy sweetness and pepperiness.
To wrap up, guests are offered Barrio Cellar Tacos – we have their beef and mushroom ones. It’s a good eat as always.
We ordered their new dessert while here. It’s a cherry nutella chimmichanga – there’s cherry nutella in a crispy pastry shell and vanilla icecream $10. It’s pretty great. Nice and crispy and it has nutella hey.
The Herradura Tequila Tasting at Barrio Cellar was a great tasting class and you’ll get a real insight into drinking quality tequila neat (and not in that collegiate tequila shots sort of way). We gained an appreciation of the flavour profiles present in the range and the complimentary eats are a bonus. A good time as always at Barrio Cellar.
