Redfern’s coming right along with plenty of good eats and bars in the area. From small bars: The Dock, Arcadia, Bearded Tit and Angry Pirate Bar to Redfern Continental – there’s a buzz and growing food scene here. New to Regent Street is Ciccone and Sons Gelateria – a small batch artisanal gelato joint by Mark Megaher and Sean O’Brien. With about 10 flavours on offer, Ciccone and Sons does sell out if you check out their instagram – its that boutique. From Classic flavours of Vanilla, chocolate to the more interesting salted cashew and Buttermilk and Passionfruit – there’s plenty of reasons to pop back in least of which is the $4 single scoop. A winning price point that impressed especially when you’re looking at just how good these are.
Inside, Ciconne and Sons is a simple affair – warmly intimate at night with quirky vintage furniture accents and that attractive scribbled menu. 10 Gelato Flavours, 1 sorbetto today. Its a minimal enough affair but the shop is nice enough and they do have biscottis and coffee so you can stop for a bit of an espresso and biscotti break too.
Salted Caramel, Strawberry Mascarpone and their salted cashew flavours. $4 single, $6.50 double. Pepe Saya buttermilk and mascarpone features in their gelato and it adds that full bodied creaminess. We loved it.
You’ll be able to make out these two Carpigiani ice cream machines just slightly in the background. Mark utilises a large paddle to get it out of the machine and into the tubs.
Ciccone and Sons is fantastic addition to Redfern. When the gelato is this good and appealing. There’s no reason why you’re not here.
