We never wrangled our way to Bondi much but in the space of a couple of weeks, we came here for sculptures by the seas, grounds by the sea, Belle’s Popup and then we wandered over to the old paper planes to check out Burgers ‘n’ Brew. Its housed in the old Paperplanes and its a bit of a mix up, and a bit of Young Henry’s push East – serving people out here in Bondi at this popup while you chow down on the burgers here.
The fitout is largely the same with the skateboards on the ceiling a holdover from the Paperplanes venue but the addition of the graffiti styled artwork by sydney artist @_suchis_ (instagram) is new. We came around 7pm and the venue started to fill out as the evening progressed so locals are catching on the fact the pop up is happening.
A look at the burgers we ordered. We had the B+B double ($18) and their chicken chorizon burger ($16). The burgers both sat in a briochey bun and came with a large side of shoe strings. Burgers and Brew and their staff put their spin on the double with a rather spicey mayo sauce which made the double a tad unconventional with its unexpected kick. The chicken patties were well seasoned and the colouring on the chicken probably isn’t just from cooking. Both burgers were quite good and were demolished. We couldn’t quite finish all the fries.
The reworked PP spot with the new Burgers and Brew has just that. Burgers and young henry’s in a somewhat fancy venue. Craving a burger in bondi? Check in at this pop up. As for paper planes? The word on the street is that its moving into the CBD.
