Bovine & Swine Barbecue Company Enmore

Enmore Road is becoming the new King Street of the innerwest with plenty of seriously great eateries opening here. Bovine & Swine Barbecue Company adds to this burgeoning food mecca. Wes Griffiths and Anton Hughes (with Tim Chillingworth) both ex-Vic Meats has opened a decidedly Texas Barbecue joint. One that’s sans pulled pork too. You’ll quickly note the aromatic qualities of the shop once past its threshold – the woody heady smokiness lingers in the space and hints at the taste sensations you’re about to partake in.

A look at their large smoker and curiously efficient space. The menu is short and precise. Meats ranging from briskets, chicken, chopped pork to beef short rib. You can also opt for your meats in their sandwich which comes in at $14. Drinks – Rio Bravo, Pabst, Young Henrys tinnies and vino.

Bovine and Swine isn’t the largest shop – think corner shop but one dishing out barbecue. For some reason, the idea of innerwest youths finishing school and popping in and grabbing barbecue strikes us as a real sea change for Americana barbecue. Don’t quite think its been that approachable before.

Meat Platter for 2. $60 – and all their sides $5 each. For your money – the platter for 2 will provide you with 3 meats – we opted for brisket, chopped pork and chicken breast – it comes with a side of chips and the pickles (the brisket sandwich is extra). All four sides (pickles, slaw, mac n cheese and beans).

So Bovine and Swine does juicy tasty barbecues that will please – the chopped pork (we’re not the biggest fans of pulled pork here) was a hit – being sweet and moist and you get a mound of it. The brisket we had was charred with that burnt ends flavour that is pretty delightful to mack on.  Of the sides we’d picked – we loved the mac and cheese and beans – both largeish serves with a great tasty mac and cheese; with surprise broccoli. Ask for extra portions of barbecue sauce. Its that good and made our meal even better. That sweet hickory taste.

Brisket Sandwich $14 – On top of their Platter for two, we had the brisket sandwich which put their tasty brisket into soft milk buns with their slaw and drizzled with their “special sauce”. It’s a nice “burger” in itself. #sojuicy

Bovine and Swine Barbecue Company is a welcome addition to the Enmore Road stretch. Chopped Pork, Mac and Cheese, American styled Barbecue in the innerwest and just cross the road from Young Henry’s Brewery?
