Artificer Specialty Coffee Bar & Roastery is Dan Yee and Shoji Sasa’s coffee joint located at 547 Bourke Street in Surry Hills. It’s a coffee bar and roastery (round the back and not visible to the public). There’s also no biccies or eats – reminiscent of what coffee alchemy is doing with Gumption. We’ve visited Artificer now a couple of times and really appreciate what’s going on here. There’s something to the crew and the venue that makes it easier to sit, while away time with your cuppa. Artificer is minimal, focused and we dig it.
The shops’s been busy everytime we check in (random weekdays) – with people hanging out at the coffee bar and then some. That’s Kerby Craig from Ume in the top pic popping in. The fitout is gold/chrome/warm wood notes and those lights are LED too (not hot to touch); which was a surprise considering how evocatively sexy they were.
From a manual pour, cold drip, piccolo, coldbrew (from Salvage up in Artamon) to a batch brew and an iced coffee with milk (last one’s a very nice batch brew)- we’ve had various configurations here and enjoyed it tremendously
Frankly, to match Artificer’s minimal and concise focus, this write up was going to be “coffeecup emoji spam+thumbs up” but google’s going to hate us if we did. Artificer Specialty Coffee Bar & Roastery is one of our favourite coffee joints in the city, it’s just really really good. Drop in, grab some beans to go, drink some coffee.
